Tattoo power supplies and accessories are an often overlooked part of the trade. There are several different ways to power your tattoo machine and to connect it to the power source.
Most tattoo machines run on direct current (DC) voltage and somewhere between 4 to 15 volts. The machine typically draws .25 to 1 amps (amperage). A power supply will need to satisfy the needs of the machine. There are also two different types of power supplies. The first is regulated and the second is unregulated.
Regulated units give a constant voltage. If it is set at 7 volts then it will stay at 7 volts within just a few points regardless if the machine is running or not. An unregulated power supply is less precise and will vary its voltage “around” the setting as the tattoo machine runs.
